Central Park Five Limited Series Finds Their Remaining Leading Men
The four-part, Ava DuVernay-created limited series chronicling the wrongful 1990 conviction of five teenagers of color have announced their remaining leading men the week before they begin filming in New York City. They series will span from the Spring of 1989 – when the teenagers were first questioned about the rape of a Central Park jogger – until their exoneration in 2014.
Chris Chalk (Gotham) will play Adult Yusef Salaam while Ethan Herisse (Miss Virginia) will play Young Salaam. Chicago Fire‘s Marquis Rodriquez will be stepping into the role of Young Raymond Santana, Jr. and newcomer Asante Blackk will portray Young Kevin Richardson. Fellow new actors Freddy Miyares and Justin Cunningham will stand in as Adult Santana and Adult Richardson, respectively.
Caleel Harris (Goosebumps 2) will play Young Antron McCray alongside previously announced Jovan Adepo, who will be Adult McCray. Also announced in earlier reports was Jharrel Jerome of the Oscar-winning film Moonlight. Jerome will portray both Young and Adult Korey Wise.
They join an elite cast which includes a collection of heavy hitters like Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Aunjanue Ellis, Kylie Bunbury, Marsha Stephanie Blake, and Storm Reid.
DuVernay executive produced, co-wrote, and directed every episode of Central Park Five, which will be released on Netflix in 2019. The limited series also reunites her with Reid, who starred in A Wrinkle in Time, and cinematographer Bradford Young, who she’s worked with on five previous projects, including Selma.
